Lockdown life

Hi All... just thought I'd do a shout out and see how we're all travelling in lockdown. I know it's different for everybody but how about a little share of wins and strategies? A win for me was putting in an outdoor bath (very ghetto) and a firepit, lovely way to spend the evening after the kids finally fall asleep.

Hope you're all doing ok out there.

OK well now I need to come over to your place for an outdoor bath by the fire. Not something I thought I'd be having a hankering for 5 minutes ago, but here we are.

Lockdown life indeed.

Well you're most welcome to come on over post lockdown but let me tell you, it was pretty easy to setup a cheap outdoor bath. $100 for the bath from marketplace. $50 for some parts from bunnings (bathwater piped straight to the stormwater so don't use any shampoo etc while bathing), run the garden hose from the laundry for hotwater and it's all done. And glorious quiet times abound.

Also, when childcare is active I am able to do various tech work which was well worthwhile, 10 JLM BA500 and a couple of LA500s completed for a friend's new studio.

How's everyone else coping?

Yeah, soldering iron is the hot water element.

Live sound at a local venue was my second income, completely dried up in March last year. My day job is in hospitality, so have had to adjust to a substantially reduced income. At least Jobkeeper kept me mostly afloat, could have been much worse!

Finally got around to finishing and releasing my band's album (on vinyl no less!) so that's a positive.

Taking the opportunity to hack a 1970's Tangent console, make it useable as a DAW front end (adding iron, upgrading IC's etc).

Kurt, any link to your band's album? Metal, right? And CBR-based?

Hey Chris, yes, I’m in a doom/death metal band from Canberra. Probably the only one actually…

You can check out the album at https://futility.bandcamp.com , would actually really appreciate some feedback on the production from some people in the know.

We sold up in Sydney in June. Went to Tokyo for the Olympics late June through mid August. Now just settling into our new house on the Gold Coast.
