FS on ebay- Byer 77- pickup Sydney only
This isn't mine, but someone should get it.
I would be all over this but I'm in the wrong city and pickup only. Great price on a pretty cool machine, and seeing them complete with the tape section is getting rarer.

Can't you Melbourne guys leave something for us Sydney guys?

Re: FS on ebay- Byer 77- pickup Sydney only
interesting ,
It's in a Mark III case.
The earlier motors were sometimes questionable in these.
Clive Sloss who started Syntec was Max Byers salesman way back when.
They used to sell the ones with good wow & Flutter figures to the radio stations and the not so good ones to schools etc.
Mk III are probably the pick of the bunch

And a Byer 77 Mk II as well -- untested-- which the seller wants $1295 for!

66 had simpler electronics and no balanced mic input.usually 3 3/4" / 7 1/2" often 1/2 track heads.not the choice for making a mic pre.. 77 Mk III would be preferable, best transformers.MK II is second choice.

Is anyone on Trock bidding on the Byer ? If someone here is I won't bid against them.
If no-one from Trock is bidding then I will.

For whatever technical reasons and there are a few
The 66 makes an outragously good sounding guitar
Amp plugged into a quad box
Right up until they melt
.. I have sacrificed a few

Re: FS on ebay- Byer 77- pickup Sydney only
The 66 uses a push pull amp with a pair of EL 84 for the output, will run 6.5 W into 4 ohm at about 2% distortion.they actually had an ultralinear output transformer. The 77 mkII used a single N78 in class A,only gave about 2.5 W,but had a better front end for the mic inputs,2 x EF86 and a 12AU7 driving the line amp transformer in push-pull.that all goes a long way as to how they sound as a pre-amp.
The 66 mic input is high impedance and goes straight to the grid of the ef86,perfect for a guitar input and overdriving.
Incidentally, the one sold here on eBay was a hybrid.the electronics were 77 but the transport was from a 66.
A quick way to tell is the head shields. The 66 only had 1 shield on the play head, the 77 had 2,on play and record.
The case it's in is from a Mk III 77.
MK III also had solid state rectifiers, whereas Mk II used 5Y3 tube rectifiers...= a bit of sag when you hit it hard.
