Up for sale is my beloved MCI JH-428B console. Here’s some info:

Serial No: 0122
Year: 1978
Transformers in & out (Jensen transformers in the mic pres).
A mixture of MCI 2001, 2003 and NE 5534 op amps used throughout so you get that classic MCI sound with some extra punch.
ALL channels pass audio.
Audio power supply and some IC positions have been modified to suit NE-5534 OP Amps.
One channel has ‘Trans-Amp’ mic preamp fitted.
All channels have active balanced line input mods.
Reworked buss levels to reduce signal to noise by 15dB.
Reworked earthing & supply filtering to reduce hum.
28 Channel mainframe, 26 channels fitted (Spares: One in/out module complete, one in/out module complete except panel. Panel was damaged and 2 modules removed from console in order to fabricate a replacement panel.)
Some status relays might need replacing (not uncommon for a 400 series), I have new replacements, which I’ll throw in.
Armrest has been replaced and the entire console has been cleaned up cosmetically so it looks as attractive as the day it was built.
Recently serviced by renowned Melbourne tech, Des Amos.

These desks sound amazing and are so modifiable that many pros are snatching them up and doing custom mods. The stock consoles also sound incredible (any of the early Al Green records can attest to that).

I bought it for 11k and have spent about 3k on it. I’m asking 10k so my loss isn’t too big.

I'll also throw in a brand new desoldering station and a hardly used soldering station for future recapping purposes etc...

Pick up from Brunswick, VIC

Cheers,

Darren

I was gonna fill half the console with these bad boys but never got around to it:

Just one example of the numerous mods you can do to these classic desks.

Bump ;)

Hey guys,

It's looking as though I'm gonna have to go down the path I was trying avoid and sell the desk to an overseas buyer. I've had interest from the UK, Canada and USA and I've been putting it off but I'm now at the point where I could do with some extra cash and I haven't got any serious local offers.

Obviously I'd rather keep it local so if you're local/interested contact me asap - otherwise this gem is going abroad.

Cheers
Darren

These are great consoles. I started on a JH-428b at a studio in Sydney and did lots of work on it. Big sound, musical eq, good size. Goes great with a JH-24.
I wasn't sure how many were in Oz. Do you know Darren?

This should be kept in the country.

I've got vovo's? :)
