I'd love it, but I'm flat broke until the end of Jan. It won't last long, I'm sure.

I've probably picked a bad time to sell, but I'd rather do it now whilst the decision has been made!

Thanks Bob, the ETR will have a good home here.

Manning, don't worry I'm done buying. Absolutely and completely done.
Not even reading the For Sale section anymore. Done.

By the way Bob, welcome to TRF.

We only have one critical house rule = put your full, real name in your signature.

We say it's because we expect "real-life" standards of behaviour in these parts and using real names helps enforce that, but the truth is that we're all stalkers in our spare time, and we need your real name so as to hack your credit records and then impersonate you.

Hey Rick!
Yes, it was a looooong while ago - somewhere in Sydney. I relocated to sunny Mexico in 2002. Love it down here, though what they call a "beach" is far from, flat & muddy, so I have to drive 90 minutes to catch a wave!

Re the gear - I've had a mental list of "things that could leave" for a while, so, out they go while I have some time off!

BTW, I'm still in regular contact with Tinno.

And Chris - thanks mate!
That's lovely of you.

Being the sad Wikipedia nerd that I am, I can tell you that Bob has his own Wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Spencer

Young Lions was in 1984 according to that infallible font of knowledge. Sadly I was living in the US during the era of the Puppy Bashers, so I missed out.

I still get a roundup from the hoad brothers bob
The young lions are famous for never being famous it seems

To stop bob being modest
He was the guy that injected the much needed and well recieved
Lifeblood into The Angels from about 1986 on
All those great mushroom records that are still on the radio every day
And the shows of that era .. My god
We could credit the rest of the band or the songs themselves
Or even the mastering engineer for them still being on the radio
But its well known in unknown circles , bob stuck a rocket up a tired
Band and made them relevent again and even greater then they were before he joined
Guitarist /producer /songwriter /funny man with a wierd haircut
He was doing the angels a bigger favour then he is ever publically credited for

I cut all those angels mushroom records it was like a dream
Come true for a young kid like me
I was barely out of school and grew up on the angels alberts catalog
But the new band with brent and bob and jim in it
Were of my time and i had the pleasure of actually being involved
!

- ok bob you can thank me or shoot me later :)
Merry x mas

an also responsible for the only #1 angels album,

If anyone in Melb, has a chance to see his band, Raw brit,I highly suggest doing it, some very good musicians from back in the day, playing british rock covers.

Hey Bob, I remember chatting to you about 20 years ago when I was at Syntec when you were after a Schematic for a Quad QC-2 Mono valve Pre-amp. Did you ever get it all going ?

cheers

Alastair

(I've still got heaps of QUAD valve gear and parts as well as Studer parts if you're looking for any)

Hi Alastair.
I think I did, however, I ended up selling the pre.
Which reminds me, the mono block I had with it (KT66's) was very nice - should have kept that one!

Yes the old Quad II mono blocks have a great sound. I have a pair with their matching Stereo Preamp , the Quad 22 (2 x QC-2 in one box basically) and valve FM and AM tuners. They all needed a bit of work with a lot of the old Carbon Comp resistors having drifted a fair bit after 50 years, , but a new set of Bottles and a few new resistors and caps and it's dead quiet again. I run them into a pair of 16 ohm Rogers LS3/5A near Fields for "popular" music or Quad Electrostatics for Orchestral....Sheer Magic Give me a pair of Class A KT-66s anyday over Mosfets.

I made a great little "Practice amp" with a KT 66 and 6SC7 , similar to an early Fender Champ circuit.
The Picture shows it with a late 40's 6L6G , but it now has the KT66 (GEC) from the late 60s. Gave a really great warm sound and heaps of bite. Does look a bit strange though....
cheers
Alastair

Great looking amp Alastair.
Back in the 70's i got given a DIY quad amp with two KT 66's so I used it as my guitar amp for quite a while. I used to call it "Old Grizzly" and still have it in storage so i should dig it out and get someone to fix it up again for me.
Old Grizzly sounded like it had inbuilt compression........I often plugged my turntable into it and Stairway to Heaven mono sounded better through it than anything else I have heard since.

Hey Myles, it's all point to Point wiring, premium components. Hammond Transformers, Ceramic sockets, NOS Valves , Sprague Caps in polished Aluminium casings. It's Now running an RCA 5Y3 Rectifier, RCA 6SC7 Octal Twin Triode for Pre-amp and GEC KT66 for output.
Gives about 8W output of pure Class A sound and the "pre" breaks up nicely. It has switchable negative feedback , tapped from the OT and switchable Boost/ Bright, then a simple tone and Volume. Circuit is an amalgamation of Champs, GA-5s and those other early practice amps.
DIY-ers , you should make something like this, it's very satisfying and better than anything commercial (Unless of course you have a "Trainwreck" or similar handmade Boutique amp)

Alastair

Sorry Bob I think I've re-Hijacked your Monitor sales thread
