WTB: MIDI to USB convertor for Mac?

Hi all,

Looking for advice on which MIDI to USB convertors are good - to connect my MBP (OSX Lion) to a MIDI instrument.

It doesn't need to provide power or audio - just from the instrument's MIDI out to the MBP USB3 port.

thanks

Hi Ian,

I use a MOTU midi express XT, a MOTU midi express 128, a DigiDesign Midi i/o, and an Edirol UM-1ex.

All of which work perfectly well with my iMac (lion) and MBP (mountain lion).

I've heard from an experienced fellow that the Edirol UM-2ex is the best for tightness, but I've never used it. All of the above work fine for me.

//EDIT//

The XT uses an iec power connection, but all of the others can run off usb bus power.

//EDIT//

Cheers,

Joe

Roland UM-one Mk2 is not bad as it has ports for computer and Ipad/Tablets. I use one of these. Make sure it is the MK2 version.

I had a midisport 2 X 2 i used for years as well....

I actually us a Edirol 31 key keyboard to do this thing, interface between midi and usb.

Thanks gents,

The MOTU unit looks really good but offers more than I need for just one MIDI instrument.....

The Edirols are obsolete now, but it appears that the Roland UM-one Mk2 is the new model - and I have a spare USB3 port that it can connect through..... that one looks the goods for about $45 :ymhug:

Hi Ian
I'm using a $10 eBay one, just a USB plug on one end and a midi plug on the other. 30cm lead, the guts must be in one of the connectors. Never an issue, even latency is perfect

eBay item number 290989727450 should work fine for you if you don't want to totally skimp out like I did

I got one of these from Sound Devices years ago and it's been perfect.

I've got a Digidesign Midi I/O sitting here doing nothing.
It works, but i can't vouch for any of the Digi I/O comments above.

The Roland one is probably better, being new.
If it doesn't work out, the Digi I/O will still be here.
