Looking for a Fender Deluxe Reverb amp.
I would love a vintage one, but probably going to be too pricey for me.
Would settle on a '65 Reissue.

Keep an eye on ebay for one. I picked one up last week like new for $990. Got to be quick though.

i can't say i'm a big amp slut, but when i was looking for a deluxe reverb we were actually lucky to have a reissue to compare with the '65 blackface i was thinking of buying.

let's just say that the original blew it out of the water, by a long way. more in the top end than anything, the original sounded glassy and the reissue sounded brittle (for want of better adjectives).

what i found really surprising is that i paid the same for the original, or maybe a touch more than a new reissue.

i'd save up and spend the extra on an original, it's really worth it.

The originals I have seen have been around $3500, I just needed one for backline so it wasn't a big thing for me to get the reissue for the sake of $2500. For the studio I completely understand.

Having said that all of the new model amps I have sounded amazingly better once they had a proper service and real tubes properly set up in them.

Just to be clear, the amp I'm interested in, is the '65 Reissue. There are some variations that sound horrible. The one I tried sounded pretty good stock. A lot of the new Fenders sound really harsh to my ears.
Spoke to the guy on Gumtree and that is a possibility although he is in Canberra.

Got to go with Chris on the old ones sounding much better.
I've got a original Blackface Deluxe......non reverb....sounds amazing.
A non reverb one will cost you less if you can find one and if you need reverb buy a Strymon Flint ........you won't regret it.

Ever considered a Princeton Reverb? A little more personality than a Deluxe (overdrives better, can do nasty etc).

I know Princetons are great for practice and studio but are they powerful enough to do medium size gigs?

I use my Princeton live almost exclusively even on really big stages

For the past 2 years my main gigging amp has been a red knob Champ. Probably does 100+ gigs a year and has plenty of power for just about everything I do. 12 watts, 1 power tube, does me just fine!

Yes. Mine's been mostly a studio amp but have gigged it a few times, perfect volume for me (and the sound guy!). Of course it doesn't get super loud and clean, but more than enough unless the other guy has a 100W Marshall.

I don't think there is much of a volume difference really, the more defined midrange helps I think, not as scooped as the deluxe. Also, the Princeton through a 2x12 cab is quite spectacular, and pretty loud
