Hi folks
Just gathering some interest in the sale of my Joeco Blackbox 24 track recorder (model BBR1A) which is like new condition and only used a couple of times.
I'm also considering selling one of my Midas XL48 8 channel mic pre's (also in perfect condition).

Thanks for the offer of help Gareth. There are supposed to be fairly intuitive, yes? Biggest question for me is which hard drive to use with them, most are bus powered and the JoeCo site seems to recommend against that. Any experiences or suggestions?

yes they are very intuitive indeed
you shouldnt have any issues in getting going

re hard drives
we use all Lacie products and specifically the RAID series for our live recordings, though depending on what you are doing you might night need that kind of risk management.
have had absolute success with all the other lacie products (use their drives in the studio as well)
but have also used western digital with success.

you are correct with the bus powered - as the joeco is designed lights (and can even be battery powered) it doesnt have the power in it to drive down the USB bus, so you need to get a 240 powered drive.

and exception to this (not shown in the manual at this point) is little USB "sticks" that are solid state, and dont need much power to run. you might need to do some experimenting here, but the key is to get a large one (like 16gb) as they are the fastest, and you will need the speed.
if its not liking it, the unit will give you a disk to slow error, so you will see soon enough.
will depend on how many tracks you are recording of course.

you should get USB 3 drives, even though the unit is only USB 2, it means that when you are done recording, and go to transfer into PT or wherever you are mixing, the process will be much faster (i only say that as i regularly record over 48 tracks for 2 hours on our MADI units... the copy at the end of the night can be slow!)
if you are just doing small track counts and short recording though thats not really relevant.

This one time.... I used my 64GB USB stick drive thingy. The JoeCo recorded 24 tracks for 4 hours straight without a glitch.
