I'm after a high end stereo comp for my studio. Located in Sydney.
Cheers.

You can build a GSSL pretty easily if you are so inclined and choose the functions you want. Otherwise I have one in a 500 module that is pretty awesome, the Serpent Audio SB4001.

Hi Myles,
I'm clueless when it comes to DIY. Wish I did know and had the time.

The API 2500 is going to cost you a hell of a lot more than a Gssl !
They are also very different .
The Api is very mid forward and the Gssl a bass sucker...unless you have the side chain feature.
Cheers

Yes thanks mate I am aware of their differences, and with all units there are good things things and bad things about both. The GSSL actually retails for more than the 2500 in the rack version.

so the GSSL is actually a DIY unit whereas I think you might be thinking of the original SSL G series comp. The Diy one can be built from around 500 on up depending on options and build quality etc.

I'm certainly willing to consider any high quality comps though that people may have.

Like I said above I have a 500 series version of the SSL comp the SB4001 and it's excellent if you have a 500 rack. I also have a Urei LA12 dual comp which I quite like but don't use much anymore as I have streamlined my outboard. And the TK mentioned above is a very nice unit if you are looking specifically for the SSL VCA-style compressor.

i can give the BC1 mentioned above a "plug"
i have one over my mix bus here.
love it.
i would say its very SSL in "character" but doesnt smash the bass so hard.
the blend feature is cool if you think it is... you know what i mean - when thats what you need its great, but otherwise its of no use.
i use it personally - because the bus hits this comp first, then the avalon 747 - which i find performs much better if there is something infront of it to tame the peaks.
but anyway - BC1 is a great sounding unit if you want that SSL sound without spending that money (but not of course its not exactly the same, and nor does it have all the features. ust the vibe)
