Gyraf Pultec Style EQ Finished

Hey Turtlecrockers,
I just wrapped up this G Pultec project. For those who don't know about this one all the details are here:
http://www.gyraf.dk/I took the photo of the guts before I had installed the input transformer, but it now has transformer in
and out. Trafos are some I got off rick, not sure what they are but they can be wired 2:1 or 1:1 so they were good for this. Tube is 50's NOS mullard off the bay, somewhere in the UK if I remember rightly. I was concerned that the massive power transformers I had lying around were going to make this bad boy hum because I physically couldn't get them far away from the audio boards, but it's quiet as a mouse! I've just used the small can style inductors, I might yet get a 'nice' inductor with multiple taps and try that out too.
I really like the sound of this one, I'll have to build another one soon so I can use it on drum bus, mix bus etc! If anyone in Aus. decides to build this one and is having trouble sourcing any parts give me a yell.

Nice Job Nick, there's something inherently satisfying about hand building a piece of equipment

There certainly is, and it's the best when it fires up first time!

Looks great! Been considering this as a next build after I finish my pair of 1176's, so it's nice to see some finished and hear good feedback.
Really neat front panel too!

Very Nice! Did you source all parts from Aus? What was the total cost if it isn't rude? Also, where did you get the PCB form? Might make one of these, perhaps - I like the idea of DIY rack gear.

Hi there,
Most of the parts came from australia, or suppliers that happily ship to Australia. Caps and resistors were from futurlec.com.au. Switches, case and connectors from Altronics and anything I missed I picked up from WES components. The tube came from a UK supplier I found on ebay. PCB's you can order directly from this guy, Gustav here:
http://www.prodigy-pro.com/diy/index.php?topic=10776.0 Transformers are really up to you... you can go expensive or cheap. You need a 2:1 and a 1:1. You can use a multi-tapped wound inductor or individual can style inductors, which will vary the price a bit.
I reckon you could scrape one together for 250-300 bucks, but it might be worth spending an extra couple of hundred for nice transformers etc.
Give me a couple of days and I'll pull my info together and email it to you... send me a PM.
Nick.

Has anyone compared these to other pultecs?

Having used/been around Rick's Pultecs a fair bit I would say the Gyraf doesn't sound very much like a real one... but it still very sounds good!

That's a beautifully named analog echo you have there.

I thought it looked a bit dodgey myself.

If you knew what it sounded like, maybe you wouldn't want your name on it!

you see, you think this is pretty funny guys, but being my age I've been likened to franklin the turtle by peers for as long as I can remember. What I want to know is what made rick think of it?!?!
P.S. Rick thanks for the email, there is a package on its way to mill rd as we speak.

I'd like to start this build but I'd like to use the grand master audio front panels. I think this means that the gyraf front panel pcbs want fit and I'd have to fly the cables from the pots to the pcb. Any words of wisdom before I order up? Who else is doing panels??

I assume that parusha guy who got banned from the prodigy forum makes one... have you seen his site? it's something like diy-racked.com or something.
have you seen these ones?

I have seen that one Nick.....but it's brown...sorry but I can't do brown. Plus the lamp and the HF atten knob are cluttered.
Also, I've heard varying reports on the purusha chap so I'm not really going to go there.
I've dealt with Pete from Grand Master before and he's all good. I'm waiting for his email reply on price.

Hi all
*Warning Gpultec porn with occasional front panel nudity.
Finished these today and they powered up and performed a treat.
Big thanks to Nick and Blake for their help.

Gpultec.. Rick....Gpultec.
This is a simplified circuit and no interstage.
Inductors are there...see if you can pick them out.
The valves are Siemens (gold pins) E188CC matched and supplied by Andrew Kay.
I was really surprised at how good these units sound and how quiet they are. And even more surprised they worked great first time.
Ta, I'm glad you likey.

Good work ben, you'll get much use out of these. I actually have developed a problem with mine... when I put them on something I can't take it off.
