hi all, got an Alesis M1 with a busted volume pot, i'd like to just bypass it as i don't see the need to have two volume controls on the circuit.

below is a pic of the setup



My very basic knowledge tells me i need to stick a resistor the same value as the pot (a10k) into the circuit, i'm just not sure where..

could someone shed some light?

five wires ...
one is ground, it will go to the ccw end of both halves of the pot
one is left hot it will go to the cw end of one pot half
one is right hot it will got to the cw end of the other pot half
one is left wiper it will go to the centre pin of one pot half
one is right wiper it will go to the centre pin of the other pot half

write down all the colour codes once you have identified all this.
remove pot pcb from the plug, cut wires and link left hot to left wiper and right hot to right wiper, forget about the ground.
Done!

excuse ignorance but what is CW CCW (clockwise and counter i'm guessing?)

also why would there be left and right if it's a mono setup?

do i need to worry about those surface mount components?

pfft ... hardly a master... I didn't even think about what this unit was before replying ... more idiot than master...

however, general approach applies. But one channel, so there must two wires involved with the socket on the pcb ... I think that is a socket I can see in the photo. Locate the wiper and the hot and join together, leave everything else intact

CCW is counterclockwise, CW is clockwise. ie the two outer pins of the pot

Yeah its a XLR/6.5mm TRS combined socket jobby..
