Having just watched Pocahontas with the kids 3 months ago - yeah, exactly what my wife and I said (quietly) all through Avatar!
..and it's up for how many Oscars? What a heap of crap, mind you the cgi's are pretty good...

come on guys. The Pochahontas theme was written about in the first review i read of the movie. It's an archetypal story. There are many more movies besides Pochahontas made to that basic storyline ...and none of the Oscar's Avitar is nominated for are for the story line.
I really enjoyed the movie, especially the way the use of 3D in avatar created the perception of being immersed in the visual rather than being a distraction.
......the note is funny though!
