Postby Lee » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:05 pm

I discovered a freeware delay calculator for mac called music math V4, which comes with some extra useful features.

If anyone knows of a better one could you please post a reply?

Dont listen to him .... he moved to Tasmania on purpose :)

.. it looks good to me - my ears were never as good at maths as those things
most plug ins do the maths automatically or via tempo tap nowadays anyway

I can remember clearly when i got my first "bpm /delay " chart
it seemed like the greatest cheat sheet on the planet to us , i paid like 20 bucks or something to laminate it !

the great thing about working delay times in fractions of the beat by using charts or calculators is you can build sonically near invisable delays that are very emotionally gratifying - subtle movements that dont distract etc etc

I have to own up to have been dusting off and adding to my collection of old school delays of late
i have lots

Yeah - Tasmania is so far behind that we have an advantage when it comes to delays !
Rick I used to have a printout of these delay charts, but eventually stopped using them - doing it all by feel, maybe its time to resurrect them again - nothing worse than getting too stuck on one particular way of working. I remember it being so much faster than the blindfold method, but at the time I felt I was always in predictable territory so I threw the delay sheet away.
I would have thought someone would have made a great iphone app by now?

Yeah I understand chris
Sometimes I reckon it's a good idea to leave breadcrumbs out for those that might follow
and just in case you've lost your way :)
already across the land there are
six guys scratching there heads saying
"what is this ancient delay chart those guys are muttering about "
rumour has it the cla left the one we all had behind in the
eighties at 301
I went to one of those mixing sessions
it was something very unlike what most of us were doing
at the time

Thanks for the different perspectives regarding delay. I hope the calculator is useful for someone.
