5 Seconds of Every #1 from 1950-2011

It's about 2 hours all up, but worth it:

Part 1 - http://soundcloud.com/mjs538/five-secon ... ry-1-pop-1
Part 2 - http://soundcloud.com/mjs538/five-secon ... very-1-pop
Part 3 - http://soundcloud.com/anthonydc/5-secon ... -billboard

The quality isn't great, but still an amazing ride.

wow, what an unexpectedly emotional rollercoaster ride... as you swing through your own era, the 'sound memories' kick in - i found myself immersed in waves of nostalgia and a bunch of other hard to reconcile emotions. each song has it's own associations and memories attached... check it out and see for yourself. the start of the second part - early 80's - had me straight back in high school. ahh, the angst, the crushes, the hair. mostly the hair.

The most annoying part for me is that as a member of the ultra-minimalist school of recording (as little eq, compression, reverb as possible) the stand-out sounds were those that got the "wall of sound" philosophy.

Good stuff.
A hit almost always has a strong melody and a few meaningful lyrics.
In the 80's the drum machine ruled...... and Phil Collins had more big hits than I thought.

The sad part is that I remember all of them, right from the start...................damn I'm getting old. The 60s certainly were the era of musical revolution, I'm glad I was there to hear it.
