I've got a few keyboards (Roland D-50) etc that have that annoying thing of spitting out a "All notes off" command when you let go of all keys.

It's a right pain in the arse, as the MPC etc that I use as a sequencer takes this literally , and stops playing all samples for a split second.

I'm looking for a hardware solution to filter this out.

MidiBox is one option, but I though others may have a solution that does not involve a 'puter or using another keyboard.

Not 100% sure but possibly the Yamaha MEP-4 midi events processor - 80s rack device that can do lots of splitting/filtering tricks.

One sold on ebay recently for $40 in the us - not sure how often these come up though.

Cheers, I forgot about those.. see them floating around every now and again.

I have an MEP4 and something else (Yamaha) that might do the trick. I was thinking about selling them as a pair. I've had them for 30 years and basically never used them (you know how it is with binary tools!!!).
I'll call over to the studio this afternoon and grab them and let you know.

Yes I have an MEP4 and an MCS 2. The MCS is shaped like a TX7 and adds pitchbend, modulation wheels to midi devices that don't have these functions as well as sustain and volume pedal inputs and other midi CC functions.
I will sell both as a package if anyone is interested

Can you set your mpc to ignore all notes off messages?
that JJ os seems to have a whole pile of extra features, and it could be in there somewhere.

Early MIDI gear is funny... I think a lot of the companies implimenting it for the first time didn't quite get what they were doing.

Nah, unfortunately, It can't filter that "All notes off" message. bah.

Ok, I sussed out the MEP4, looks like it's what I want.

I'd be steering clear of anything that added another delay to the midi stream. It sounds like you are using a multiple-master-keyboard scenario - wouldn't it be more ergonomic to re-arrange things so that you had just one, and the others as slaves? (in particular the ones that send All Notes Off)

I think the D50 is his most modern and full featured MIDI keyboard.........

If it's a master keyboard into a sequencer, I doubt the miniscule processing delay is going to mess with the recording of my chops too much. lol.
(Especially after a quantize down to 1/16th's!)

Early implementation of MIDI is a pis@#er. Ughh.. I want to slap the person who decided stuff defaulting to OMNI was a good idea.

LOL I know .. every session I have to plug the midi out of my MD8 to the input and hit a note on the jupe to take it out of omni... there were a few other arcane rituals associated with that vintage but as I've upgraded chips etc I've managed to whittle it down!

Thanks! Arrived today. Works perfectly at channelising the 4 synths that I've got that default to OMNI. Brilliant. Means they can all be sequenced by the MPC nice and easily.
Browsing through it's presets, it's got a few cool other tricks up it's sleeve too.
