Anyone tried the iPad as a controller yet? You can get an app that with give you 8 faders, jogger wheel and other controls over your mix like Logic. Other DAW programs work as well.

Seems to me to be a bit small to offer much advantage.

Check out some of the youtube demos of it. Really laggy. Wouldn't want to do anything precise with it but good for lying on the couch while setting a rough balance.

Ask Damo from Pony, i witnessed him using his iphone to use the Digi Profile/D-Show, he would be the most qualified person i know to elaborate on this subject.

Things are moving forward in this game tech-wise, pretty soon i reckon it will be all wireless, all digital and not a multicore in sight.

Anyone care to comment on that issue? Not meant as a thread hijack either Nic ;)

I had the same thought - I can imagine a day when all instruments on stage plug into an iPhone (or equivalent) running the tone generation software...each of which sends the signal wirelessly to the mixing desk, which is an iPad (or two or three, linked together), which then sends the mixed signal backs to the iPhones, which then sends the mix into the musician's in-ear monitors.

Totally soundless, wireless stage. Only acoustic instruments in the venue are the PA speakers.

But what about acoustic instruments like drums and acoustic guitars, you say? Well, technology shapes music as much as music shapes technology. Ever heard techno on a Martin D28? The music will "evolve" (for better or worse) to fit the technology, and venues will only book bands capable of using the technology.

Mmmm....mp3 quality sound all round....

All punters could have their iphones (or whatever) wirelessly receiving the signal to headphones. So no need for speakers.
Hey presto - Silent gig. No more noise complaints. Pubs and venues on every corner. ;)

You wouldn't even need to be in the venue!

Hey presto! No more pubs!

Oh wait, the alcohol thing...

Not as far away as you might think.. Seen the new Amplitube for iPhone app?

Yeah, it was amplitube that got me thinking along those lines.

As it stands, with OS4 in my iPhone lagging as horribly as it is, I don't think will be happening for a while yet :)
