Hi Guys,

Bought a Carillon Axis 70 ribbon the other day and finally got to trying it out today with some guitars. I like! I compared them with previous recorded guitars (same position) with my be!@#$%^& (lol) B2Pro LDC. I've found it 'smoother' is how I would describe it. That was with high gain guitars. I decided to record some low gain to medium gain guitars today and I'm loving the results.

I tracked into the API 512C into API 550B (which I did 2-4db adjustments) and into Reaper. Did some basic cutting at 2-300hz and some bottem end roll off. The ReaComp is not the greatest comp and I can hear a little pumping in this, but when I get my new I/O I should be able to use my API 527's.

I did the Stedman Proscreen 101 scat vocal (which was on the pop screen...that'll do for working on a melody. lol) with the Ribbon mic aswell. I heard they're good for heavy eq'ing later. Same thing, into 512C, 550B (tried to pull the natural sibelence in my voice out). Was able to punch the top end with plugs without sibelence, so I'm learning to try and solve sibelence in tracking first. Makes for easier mixing!

If you're willing to crack out the soldering iron, you can replace the transformer in this mic and improve it significantly...

Glad you received it ok and like it!! Sounds great as a room mic too and also works well on hi-hats for a not so crisp hat sound.

Thanks for the link! I think I'll do that. I'll just need to get a soldering iron and google how to solder properly! any tips?

Yeah thanks Geoff! Later I'll get another one for stereo techniques. Once I get some room treatments setup I'm keen to experiment with some acoustic instruments to get a real organic sound from the room.
