So I was doing a little writing in the studio tonight and was working on a piece, that accidently turned into one of those james bond sequences. You know the one where he's all devastated because things aren't going his way and there's that sequence where he's trying to find his way again.

It's real short because I was hitting a brick wall, then the melody hit the 'james bond' zone and then I called it quits. ha ha.

Nice sound, what do you use for the strings? It does sound quite like Bond but you could easily change a note here or timing there and have something original to work with. I've given up worrying if my songs sound like something else, I just do my thing and if it sounds similar to something else who cares (well the lawyers might but you get what I mean - one of the joys of doing this as a hobby means more music, less red tape).

They're pretty powerful dynamically. Doing fast stuff with the strings is probably the weakest link in the product. Getting that kind of stuff to sound real. I have toyed with the idea of East/West hollywood strings which sound pretty amazing, but GPO4 is really efficient...and cheap! 2GB of space for all the instruments and the ARIA is a 64bit app which performs so well! I can do loads of instruments without crashing. And I've got to think about disk space. I use a 256GB SSD drive for everything, and BFD2 takes up 50+GB so I'm trying to ration out my space. So I think I'll stay with Garritan for the time being.

BTW, I don't get kickbacks.

Cool thanks for the info, I might get that at some point. I'm after a good string plug - love strings (real deal is a bit hard tho). Thought your track might have been the Vienna Strings or the Eastwest strings, also apparently pretty good emulators. Something to think about once I'm sorted for hardware gear (if that ever happens...)

Yeah I've heard Vienna and they are crazy expensive! They are also phenomenal sounding! East/west is also impressive and have really good ambience, but 1000 and above. The garritan is quite intuitive to play. You use the mod wheel to swell and resonate at the same time. You can play slow passages with really good feel. I love using the French horns. Particularily the SAM project brass. You feel so articulately connected to the instrument! And it can get loud! Very powerful and dynamic.
