spectral editing....

OK...

so, i've got some sounds, a kick, a snare, some percussion, etc.

i'd like to open them up, and use some colour filters, paintbrushes, this and that..etc ...and try some wierd/odd things to make them sound different...simplify harmonics, have controll over amplitude of different harmonics, etc...

can anyone recommend anything for this?? Izotope RX looks like it does this, is there anything else out there more geared towards sound design and transforming the quality of something??

Cheers!

Algorhythmix reNOVAtor has worked miracles for me in the past... even for really tricky stuff like pulling distortion out of a vocal - in a stereo mix. pure voodoo. when you can actually SEE the part of the spectrum that isn't supposed to be there, you can do just about anything.

next stop after that is your serious forensic/clean up stuff, ie cedar et al.

oh ok i see your looking for creative applications... wasn't there something getting around a while ago where you could open a .wav file in Photoshop, dick around with it, and bounce it back to a wav?

opening audio up in photoshop would be ideal...

really ideal :-)

but yeah spectral editing for sound design, not so much for cleaning up. although technically u could use the clean up ones in clever ways.

There's a free program called 'photosounder'.
I've got it at the studio but i'm not there tonight.
Maybe google it?

Metasynth looks way cool. I love the 'montage room'.

"You'll need a montage. (Montage)
A simple little montage! (Montage)
Always fade out into a montage... (Montage)
If you fade out it seems like a long time has passed in a montage..."

Metasynth is one of the coolest apps available for creative audio manipulation - surprised it's not more widely known.
