is there anyway to get around running pci-x cards from a pci-e slot. I know they are completely different formats and technologies but just susing it out if there are any work-arounds. I did a bit of roaming on the net today and came across something called "Riser" cards which might be on the right track but the internal workings of computers are not my forte.

the general idea would be to take pci-x HD2 cards and use them in a mac pro with pci-e slots?

Wow that would be handy. I'll be watching this thread with Vovo's and interest.

for anyone who was interested i did find a solution. a brand called magma do them. F$%^ing pricey though!

Kurt, i already emailed that seller on eBay and unfortunatly they are not compatible with Mac.

Does anyone else have a cheaper solution!?

I looked into this in depth recently. There is just one 4-slot Magna chassis that will do this reliably.

I have this PCIe to PCI adaptor and I use it with my Mac Pro and it has 4 PCI UAD1 cards hanging off it. Works great! But........ I have tried to get my PCI RME card to work in it and no go.

Have you tried using PCI HD cards?

why do you want to do that? riser cards typically are there to run full height cards from half height slots via physically rising a new cage.
magma works but costs a bomb.

pcie is the new standard really.

i believe pcie4-6- etc can run in a pcie16 slot just not effectively. to my knowledge..
