Hi guys,

Just wanted to get some opinions from TRocker's between these two units.

Now I know there is a pretty reasonable price/quality difference - but I'm just wondering sonically how they compare.

From the little I've heard, I do like the sound of the old Lexicon units and they do seem to sound a little nicer than the alternative modern budget offerings from the company.
...But I'm a big fan of Future Sound Of London's use of ambient reverb in their music and they had two of these Alesis' back in the day - so if I could get away with using one of these I'd certainly welcome the cheaper pricepoint.

Use would be mainly on vintage synths so it would be in mono anyway, just after a basic reverb, nothing fancy - so what do you guy's think?

For live sound work I have been very happy with the Alesis IIs, but I would think that the Lexicon would be a better bet in the studio.

well if you love FSOL and that's the reverb sound, you may as well buy one and see what it does for you.

I've used a midiverb a lot in the 90's. I'd get the Lexicon if I could afford it unless you want to do more complex verb/fx.

Yeah thats what I was leaning towards to be honest, best to get the good one from the start.

Julian, do you still want to sell your PCM60? When do you think it'll be ready to go? I'd rather buy from a fellow Turtlerocker than go to the bay.

I used to use a midiverb II for years when it was the only FX box I had - mixed many good albums with it.
Recently I was tracking an album and all of our reverbs were not available so I used the midiverb again and the results were really great - so I recorded the reverb.
Got to the mix with so many great choices for reverbs (EMT / H8000 / Q8 springs / masteroom stereo springs / lexicons etc - I chose the Midiverb.
What it is really good for is really long reverbs (patch 29)
Sometimes the lexicons do not sit in the mix so well as they sound separate to the music -
i fell in love with the midiverb again for the dreamy long reverbs -most of the other settings I never really liked.
I want another one for my home setup

I had a PCM60 in my guitar rig for years - was a nice unit (shame it wasnt midi) - certainly nowhere near a more powerful PCM 80/90/91, but function and simple - with quality verb (remember it was the first digital rev from Lexi too)
I guess it will depend on your budget and whether you want to deal with programming matrix's - Lexi is push-button simple ;-)

Well, to update, I have just snagged a Midiverb II today so we'll see how I go - I'm sure it will do just fine for what I need, plus if I want a more clear pro sounding reverb, I can always get something else later.
