Passive Summing Mixer Make-up Gain Preamp

Postby NathS101 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 4:10 pm

Hey guys
I'm wanting to DIY a 2ch pre to use with the rob's passive mix box, what do you suggest??
Have been thinking of the JLM Dual99V rack kit but not too sure how it would sound (too thick/coloured?)
Will also be building an SSL clone comp in the near future to use on the mix buss after the pre.
Open to all suggestions,
Cheers

The dual99v is one of his more transparent pres and I think it would be ideal for makeup gain. I use the 500 series version for tracking and have read lots of other people use it also for make up gain.

What about Joes Babay Animal Neutral (BAN) straight wire with gain if you want that sort of thing.

Thanks guys. Was thinking about a pair of BAN pres a while ago however I thought I'd may as well spend the extra money and get the dual99V for when I want more gain. However after seeing Chris' post about using tube pres I'm considering them as another option...
