in the past few weeks many of you have helped me with ccts of fun "tools", a phantom power blocker, inline pads, i also make an XLR tester with 2 leds across pin2-1 and pin 3-1 so i can see if stuff is broken..(apply phantonom and if no lights, either no earth or dead, no red led, no pin 2, no green led, no pin 3)..
what other little toys do you guys have/use/make that live close by and you use regularly..
cheers,
damien

Buy a bear ringer CT100. I use it almost every day.
It is:
- cable tester (XLR/Jack/RCA/Mini Jack/TT Bantam/Midi) and can test any combination of these.
the cable tester has a matrix of lights to show what is connected to what. also has intermittent lights so you can see if a cable is dodgy only part of the time.
- signal generator at +4, -10 or -50, the latter being great when you're trying to work out why you've got no mic signal.
- phantom checker. will illuminate a light if the cable that is plugged in has phantom power.
- also has a light for grounded shield cables.
It can also test cables in situ using a cap at one end.
Handiest bit of kit. Not sure if they ripped off the design but who cares.

OK I take that back - it's a complete, screw-for-screw, feature-for-feature copy!
that's obscene. i should throw the deadringer in the bin and buy a real one.

holy crap that really is a copy!
so useful though, to test patchbays etc, TT in one side, TRS in the other etc
75ohm cap on one end of a coax video lead to trace stuff, saves so much stuffing around.. between that and a multimeter you can do most anything
