a mate of mine posted this on another forum, for general interest i thought i'd feed this question to the hungry pirannas on this forum. He's after a hopefuly very simple DIY step sequencer/kit, as he found out his newly acquired toy, a Bleep Labs Thingamagoop excepts CV in, etc.

So the Thingamagoop2 can accept CV, and I've a few other DIY things in mind for future idiocy that would utilise it too.
Can I DIY one... I'd consider my skills to be entry/moderate level hobbyist. Basic troubleshooting and circuit concepts aren't beyond my comprehension, but starting from scratch is out of my league.
Kits seem like a good option but they aren't cheap unfortunately. Since what I'll use it for will have a custom housing there's no need for prefab cases/panels so avoiding them to cut costs is ideal.
So far the Voice of Saturn sequencer seems easy enough, though 10 steps is a bit silly - would rather 8 or 16 for obvious reasons.
There's a few schematics going around, I guess I just want basic control of CV but having note duration would be handy as long as it's not too complex. Will search later on and post what I dug up at work today, if you know of anywhere for me to start with post it here - any input is appreciated.

The voice of Saturn uses a 4017 decade counter IC (Awesome Chip)
This has a reset pin, which causes the counting to... uh... reset.
So, if you tie the 8th output to this pin, the sequencer will reset on the 8th step..
Not using this pin causes the chip to reset after 10 steps..
So, in summary, it would / should be a simple easy thing to do to make it 8 step, or if you put in a rotary switch.. 1 to 10 steps.
Regards
Mike
