8 track cassette

Postby Matthew Dawson » Sat Feb 11, 2012 9:08 pm

Almost 20 years ago I had a Ta@#$% 688 and made some excellent recordings on it. Although I have the DAT masters and converted them to WAV files some time ago, my mixing abilities were very limited and I have always wanted to remix some of the tracks. I still have the 8 track multitrack master tapes.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on an old 8 track machine to transfer the master tapes to the computer?

I think Ta@#$% made at least three models of cassette 8 track recorders - the 688 portastudio, a smaller portastudio and a rack-mounted version. All I need is one with 'direct outs' that is in good working order.

It would be good if I could rent one ...

Cheers,

Matthew

I can only see listings for service manuals ... none for the machine itself

We have a 688 sitting here doing nothing. No idea what's a fair price or what it'd cost to send from Newcastle.

Wow - perhaps we can work something out? Thanks Chris ...

I'll see if I can work out how to get it to Melb from Newcastle ... I will try the suggestions in the thread about Rick's drill.

I'll PM you

Probably quicker and easier all round to send the tape to Melbourne rather than the machine to Newcastle...

Good point - I'll chat to Chris about that. I have many many tapes though ... it's gonna take a while.

Matt,

Only just saw your PM and replied.

Re Kurt's comment...........first problem is that I actually don't have a PC anywhere in the recording chain. Haven't had for about 3 years although it is something I am currently working on. Second problem is time......I'm not able to find enough of it to record myself :(
