Will do.
I always eat at The Vegie Bar when I'm in Melbourne.
I know it's been mentioned a couple of times already, but I didn't realise that was the name of the place I always end up.

I'm a bit lost as to what that means...
She goes to shit restaurants, which you like. O,r they're good restaurants but not worthy of some attention and publicity?

On a side note, if you're eating at the kind of restaurants Maeve films in, every weekend, there is still money in music!

haha, i was sick because she was doing a tour of all these cool cheap places to eat, to people who live out of the area, and it was so.."filthy fancy pants BS" made for well off couples living in Bondi probably....made me sick....those places are cheap eats, not the nice places the SBS show was filmed in...just places where u can get honest good, cheap every day food.

ps. i dont make my money with music! i wish!!!

adding to my list...

JANANI - Homebush (32 Burlington St)
The place to get Masala Dosai....1 to 1.5 footlong indian wafer thin pancake with your choice of stuffing... and 5 sauces....$10....

I took 11 people there, and we paid $170 for literally all we could eat....although i'm suffering from chilli this morning :-(

Breakfast post-gig at Shenkin in Erskineville is awesome. Israeli inspired menu and very good coffee.
No idea what it's called but there's a pizza place in that weird mall thing next to The Baldfaced Stag, expensive but very tasty..

4am Turkish near The Townie is good, never had it sober though...

FOOD! now youre talking.. who gives a shit about audio.... ;-)

someone mentioned king st cafe in perth - my first (and nearly only pick) in WA. other options are saigon for cheap vietnamese eats in norhtbridge and clarences and jacksons - both expensive in highgate.

SYDNEY:
vini (as mentioned above) exceptionally good real italian.
same guy also owns berta (more formal) and 121BC (more bar with snacks) all three of them are amazing

china doll (wooloomooloo wharf) and china lane (city) exceptional modern thai/ viet

orto trading (surry hills) great british style australian open 3 meals a day.

steel bar (city) amazing steaks/ fine dining

il baretto (surry hills) some of the best pasta in the city

red lantern (surry hills and darlinhurst) exceptional viet

food society (darlo) euro cuisine and vodka. amazing and very casual compared to lots of sydney.

grasshopper (city) probably the only good french place left now that tabu has closed?

uchi lounge (oxford st) slightly odd/ bad service but amazing japanese and very quiet/ relaxed.

MELBOURNE:
chin chin - as mentioned - bit "wander" but extremely good. do the "feed me" menu for best bang for buck

cumulis - probably my favourite restaurant in the country. amazing. italian/ spanish/ share food/ modern.

cutler and co - cumulis mother restaurant. more fine dining and a little out of the CBD but amazing in all respects

cafe e cucina - south yarra. best original style italian

movida - probably the only "real" spanish in australia.

izakya den - exceptional modern japanese in the city

gingerboy - comparable to red lantern in sydney. modern viet. very very good if slightly odd decor/ design.

cookie - part of a busy club - but if that is what you are looking for, what longrain used to be like in sydney

im a tour manager... so you know
shout out if you want a table anywhere and ill try and sort you out
;-)

maybe we should start a new forum?

Good Mex in Melbourne, as in authentic -
Mamasita - Collins Street City
Los Amates - Johnston St Fitzroy
Radio Mexico - Carlisle St St Kilda
And Casa Iberica Deli - Johnston St Fitzroy for supplies.
My Dad grew up in Mexico and rates them all highly.

Excellent last two posts.
I'm on a diet, or I'd check all those places out this week!

Back when i was touring frequently, my drum tech and I talked about writing a guide to all the best laundromat's, tool shops and cheap eats etc...

I used to love Shenkins... but then the prices went up and the quality went down. Stuff like replacing their delicious real melted chocolate with cottees pump bottle rubbish, and portions bordering on scarce.

I have started eating Brekky at Ella Cafe on Abercrombie street in Redfern. There is nothing ground breaking about it. It just gets everything right. It is cheap, the portions are huge and everything looks and tastes fresh and crisp.

The Eat House Cafe on the corner of Chalmers and Redfern street has amazing food and cocktails. About $25 a main, but it is pretty damn amazing!

I once had a divine duck cassoulet at Grub and Tucker in Newtown. Don't know if generally the place is any good, or if I just got lucky. Of course, a couple of glasses of pinot helped.

Here in South Africa, I haven't eaten at any really classy places yet (going to a winery restaurant tomorrow), but I have to say Oz food beats this place hands down. For the first 9 days of my visit, I didn't see a single green vegetable... just melanges of squash, potato, onion and capsicum smothered in butter and overcooked. I was ready to kill for a piece of broccoli. I'm thinking, how on earth do these people shit!?

good question...i used to think that...before i reminded myself that not all humans are the same, and this isnt discussed much because genetics is a touchy subject....however, different races metabolise differently to each other.
not sure if you notice...(space left blank intentionally) i wont go any further before i sound like a 60's eugenics supporter :P

a better, more race neutral example would be how Scots, Irish,, etc can drink litres, while a counterpart would drink the same and might be hospitalised....

Europeans are known to be able to eat larger amounts of red meat/lamb/beef, and not have as high a likelihood of developing some sort of heart disease from it.

Genetics, environment, and heredity....

However, im with you, if i dont see or eat a piece of green...a panic.

I think it's pretty accepted that for humans worldwide, a diet based on small portions of meat with an emphasis on whole grains, fruit and vegetables is both healthy and actually normal.
More disease and obesity occurs in societies where meat consumption has exploded since the 20th century.
The European, mediterranean diet for example = Small portions of meat, not consumed every day of the week, filled out by lots of healthy oils, grains and fresh fruit and veg.

Jackman and McCross is pretty good. Man the pastry is rich though. Half a tub of butter in every pie. Their slices and cakes are pretty great too.
Chris, go and eat at Little Salama next time you're in Hobart. It's on Harrington street opposite Centrepoint and Spotlight. It's run by a little lady that only trades between like 11.00am and 2.00pm.
Very very fresh, clean, fast and tasty.
I recommend the deng deng beef in either a wrap or salad.

The sushi is pretty decent at R Takagi on Liverpool street.
