Build one? There are plenty of plans out there or you can just craft your own to suit yourself. One of my first tasks when I get back to melbourne and I usually get professional help to make sure it looks good but for a few hundred you can make something that perfectly suits you with some clever thinking.

I'm sitting at one as I type. Can't put the speakers where I want them.

yeah, I've never liked off the shelf desk designs. We had one of the argosy designs at VCA and it sucked both in quality and form factor.

Hmmm, Yes I have felt uncomfortable with the thought so it's great to hear your feedback.

I have some time off in December, so I will do some research and who knows, possible start constructing !!!

Thanks for your thoughts.

I've found drawing things up in something like google sketchup can be invaluable and you can import plans from others to alter as you see fit. Then you can print this out and take to a pro if you do want to build it yourself. Also, if you go custom you can do things that aren't easy to find or cheap like putting good quality solid castors on the desk or using a beautiful timber slab for the top or adding a cushion rest at the front etc etc. There's a thread of diy desks on gearslutz, most are pretty crap but there are some good ones there for inspiration. Of course you can always just take a good second hand solid wood table and cut that up too which is what I did for the first custom desk I made.
