not for sale: here
I have discovered there is a good chance that the mic body at least is a fake, a clone, a cheap genuine imitation. I never would have thought it would be worth faking a humble Gefell 692, a Schoeps maybe, but we are not even talking an M582, with Neumann round badges. Go figure?
So, it is not appropriate to be selling something as tawdry as this here, at Turtlerock!
1x Gefell MV692 mic body, with pad and high pass filter,
with an M94 nickel cardioid condenser capsule
Converted in Germany to P48 phantom power on an XLR, and it's the neatest conversion I have seen.
"48 volt conversion replaces the internal double diode (feeding 12volt phantom and 12 volt direct) with a stabilized circuit feeding the original circuit (which has been checked for healthy capacitors). No glue used, just a soldering iron is needed to get back to the original."
The mic body has also been very nicely refinished as well, with a satin black powder coating after sandblasting .

Phil, the replacement body may just be a way of fitting the XLR/48v kit to play nice with the body. The guts may be just fine. Just a thought.

Re: FS: Gefell MV692/M94 nickel cardioid - XLR/P48
thanks Casey, you may well be right, that's a reasonable scenario, the mic does work fine, but sound wise, the mic body is the weak link, the capsule behaves, with the usual vintage variations, just as you would expect, on any other body I have, but on this body, it sounds a bit middie, and, the mic's output is out of phase with all my other mics.
But I have been through this scenario many times over the years, keeping the good sounding ones, and recycling the others. I took as the joys and tribulations of vintage gear.
Nonetheless, I am selling because it doesn't live up to the rest of the collection, so again, I should not be selling it to fellow trockers for that reason alone.
sincerely, Phil Georges.

Re: FS: Gefell MV692/M94 - sale ended
I remember when I first bought a fake item, I was gutted that I paid good money for it and found out quite some time later that it was a fake.
I was so excited to get my first new SM58 only to find out that it did not sound as good as a lot of other SM58 I had used. Unfortunately it took 3-4 months to find this information out and there was no chance to get a refund. In the end I gave it away for free letting the person know its true origins.
Only to be surprised to find out 6 months later that they had sold it on as a genuine SM58.
Good on you for following through with your conscience.
If you did not live in Melbounre but were here in Brisbane I would have loved to taken you out for a coffee.
Cheers

Thank you Dale, and if I do find myself up in Brisbane, I'll have a string latte, 2 shots, 2 sugars, thanks!
