There are a couple of decent sized Cadac consoles for sale in QLD. They'd be pretty awesome studio desks.
S type with 33 slot frame configured as follows.
23 Mono inputs, 1 Stereo Input, 6 Mono Aux, 2 Stereo Aux, 8 VCA, 8 Matrix out, 1 Master out
2 x PSU

Not mine but I'd be interested...

Yes well i would be just one of the many
Divorced guys on the forum
Not sure if its an occupational hazzard or if we
All just married the wrong / same girl
Probably the latter .
.....
But when i sell , its to move the money into something
Else that works for me
I price for one day sales and thats just the way it is

10k will buy you a beast .. Just don't forget
To leave money aside to feed it well
Or your going to get bitten badly .

While not disagreeing with the principle, sometimes it can be less painful. My Auditronics 740 (bought on Rick's recommendation from Steve Francis, aka "particle") cost me $8500, and I've spent exactly $3500 since Sept 2011 on install, replacement parts and initial/subsequent servicing.

However that was for a board with known provenance, which I think is a huge factor in purchasing.

Oh come on
Rounding errors .. The world runs on rounding errors

Point is there is a board with senads name on it
It just needs to show its self .. Right time right place
Australia is FULl of unloved big consoles
They are harder to sell then they are to find
I would not import one i would get on with the rest of
It and pounce when the time is right .

Seriously? Way to show their students what they'll never work on...

No love for the Cadac though? If I was in the right situation that would be mine..

exactly - right time right place
i recon dave carter got a "bargain" on my old DDA. very well looked after, very well upgraded, very well shipped.
but i also got a "bargain" on a completely ignored, not looked after, trashed, "piece of shit" (with the N word on the side) to replace it. had i not been buying something new.. neither would dave!

all depends what you are looking for at the time
and what you need NOW (like ricks one day sale theory)
and what you need in the future.

i would realistically have spent 5 times the amount dave paid me for the DDA on maintenance/ cabling/ upgrading/ maintaining that board. not including my original purchase of it.
but i also made bunch of money mixing records on it…

and hopefully the same will be true of the next one.

we definitely got a bargain on the dda - I had been looking for something for a while and saw a neotek go for less, but couldn't do anything about it at the time.

No use keeping it to myself any longer I suppose..... I won't be buying any.......Snead, If you are interested, I know where a few Cadac consoles are, that might move from unobtanium to obtainable status depending on which way the wind is blowing.

It's a real eye opener how much the big boards drop in value .I was in on commission ing 3 x SSL boards when I was at Syntec in the 90's. The 4k G for ABC ultimo was about $400,000 as was the 4k G+ for studio 22 at Gore Hill. The 6K G+ for GTV 9 was 96 channel,U shaped and was $1 million . At the time the most expensive board SSL had made (so I was told) I wonder where they all ended up ?
System Sound had 4 Cadacs at the time for theater work, about $600k each

Haha..I reckon
Although, I think it might not be all about the students... but who am I to think..
Cadac..not sure. I have researched them a little, and would probably prefer a Calrec instead. But, as I said before, it's not all about me.
BTW..what do people think a 36ch Audient 8024 is worth?

DDA DMR12 's are great for the price. Usually sell these days between 5-8k.
I had one going for 5 years and also used Gareth's a few times.
Flexible and affordable but probably won't draw clients in necessarily..if that's what you're after.

I very much doubt most consoles will pull clients unless it's something really special. I don't choose places based on console I choose them on a range of other issues like we discussed in the thread about what producers look for in studios. Those cadacs would make great centre pieces to studios are rare, sound great, look good and are well within budget as well as regularly serviced. Then again for 10k you could build 24 channels of a variety of diy api 500 mic pres and eqs and build them into a cool custom table top and build a summing amp too. Everything else would be ITB, headphone routing etc. That could be a drawcard for the studio.

1970's era Cadac are incredible. Right up there with the very best Neve and Helios.
I don't know anything about the more recent Cadac's - 80's onwards.
The name is also unknown except for studio and audio fanatics.
If the whole point of the console is to draw in clients, I agree, you need a household name that most musicians/engineers have heard of - which probably brings it down to Neve, Api, Trident, Studer etc unfortunately.

24 channels of DIY api500 stuff would set you back about 8.5k if you built them yourself depending on options. cases would add another 1000 or so, then build a couple of comps or eqs and there you are at the 10k mark. you'd get it all cheaper buying in bulk too. I'd probably go for 16 channels of pres and 4 channels of eq and 2 channels of comps, all fitting into 2x 11 slot racks. Then build/buy another 8 channel preamp rack and get a patch bay...
