2k5 rev log dual gang pots?

ok ok ok, this is getting frustrating. all i need to finish off my pair of ssl 9k pre's are the gain pots.

i'm after either a pair of [b]2K5 reverse log dual gang[/b], or else a pair of [b]dual deck 12 position rotary switches[/b] (Mouser part # [b]10WR212[/b] - listed as 'obsolete')


does anyone have any of these little buggers? it's driving me mad. i'll pay, of course!!


once i get these two pre's knocked over, i can finally get my LA2A's built. the 9k's are holding everything up.

Hey chris,

I have a couple of those exact alpha switches rolling around my spare parts box. Finding 2k5 reverse log pots will be a challenge. The problem with the alpha's however is that they turn a full 360 degrees. Its almost like a detented (a very detented!) endless rotary encoder. Once you get to full gain you can click it one step further and be back at the lowest gain. As another option you could use some more expensive 24position switches. It will give you a smaller gain increase per step. Conversely, you could just use cheap Lorlin 2 pole 6 position switches. You'll get pretty large dB steps though.

i doubt you'll ever find a 2K5 dual rev log pot ( but let me know if the miracle happens )

but you can get a 2 gang 12 pos switch from Altronics p/n S3015 $15.70. These are good switch but are pcb mount so you need to creative with hanging your resistor network off it

thanks Rob, but i don't fancy building the resistor network onto a sub-mini pcb mount switch - that might kind of suck. too much margin for error.

someone on Prodigy mentioned Audio Maintenance in the UK. i know the melbourne posse, 'cause they've serviced my TAC console. they've got 2.2k rev log duals. and a 2.2K rev log dual deck would sidestep any build problems from making my own from a dual deck rotary.
then once i know the pre's are working, i'll build up the rotaries so i've got better gain mapping (i should be able to get something like 72dB of gain, using the right resistor values - http://www.prodigy-pro.com/forum/viewto ... hlight=ssl).

almost there with another project.

the Altronics switches are not too small and i've built a dual resistor stack on them with just a steady hand and a beady eye

however the dual 2K2 rev logs sound promising, you just won't be able to get the very end of the low gain range up.

i had a good chat to Des at ATT controls (TAC and Amek repairs) and a pair of pots looks promising, but i will still build up a pair of rotary switches as well, because of the improvements in gain structuring b/w gain A and gain B as per the Prodigy link i posted previously.

well, i've got the rotary switches organised now. everything is built, including the JLM go-between (for phase/pad/phantom) so it shouldn't be long till i can give them a run.

I dunno whether Sammas is posting the dual-gang rotary switches to me, or what. i hope it wasn't a ploy to try and get my address. he only got my PO box - maybe that's why i haven't heard back?

so i'm ordering the switches from Mouser, along with a pile of other bits and bobs.
